In most cases the taskbar is simply hidden but not missing. If you mouseover the bottom of your desktop you should be able to see the taskbar popup. If it does not popup and appears to be missing, check the Taskbar & Start Menu Properties Window using the steps listed below:
1. Go to your Control Panel and choose Appearance & Themes.
2. Inside Appearance & Themes choose Taskbar & Start Menu. This will bring you the Taskbar & Start Menu Properties Window.
3. Inside the Taskbar & Start Menu Properties Window uncheck "Auto-Hide the Taskbar" and apply changes.
4. If the taskbar is still not showing you may want to check your monitor screen resolution or display settings. In some cases parts of your desktop and taskbar can appear hidden if using an unsupported screen resolution, or you may need to adjust your monitor's vertical alignment until you see the very bottom-edge of your desktop. This is usually done manually by using your monitor's built-in controls.
Note: Some users reported a bug in Windows XP that may occur where the taskbar suddenly appears to be missing in the middle of performing a task. This was fixed by simply restarting their computer.
