Windows sfc /scannow not working

Windows cannot find 'sfc/scannow'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

How to make sfc /scannow work

STEPS:

1. First, click okay when you get the message: Windows cannot find 'sfc/scannow'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

2. Click on Start > Run and be careful that the spelling is correct and that there is a space between sfc and the forward slash / so that it looks like this sfc /scannow - that's sfc(space)/scannow

3. Press OK to run.

Scannow will indicate: Please wait while Windows verifies that all protected Windows files are intact and in their original versions.

This command will initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify file integrity and by replacing files that have problems. You may be prompted for the Windows CD. If the Windows CD does not have Windows SP2 installed on it, you will need to get a slipstreamed disc that includes Windows SP2. Put the disc and exit from the setup program. Press Start>Run. Type cmd and press OK. At the DOS prompt, type sfc /scannow and press return. You may be prompted to insert your disc several times. Press retry to continue the process. Reboot when the blue progress bar finishes. You may need your Windows product key to complete this .
