Mail Safety / Checking Suspicious Mail or Packages

Steps for Identifying Suspicious Mail or Packages / Mail Safety Tips

As a general rule you should never use any edible products such as food samples sent through the mail unless you can authenticate the sending party and/or unless it's something you ordered. Many times baby formula samples are sent via mail and while it's probably safe, it's just advisable to use store bought formula that you personally select.

If you receive an unexpected package with no return address use caution. Usually if someone is sending you a package they will let you know and surely they would put a return address.

Unexpected packages with a strange odor, mildew, chemical smell, appearing to have leaked liquids, or powdery substances, are to be reported. The same applies to other types of mail such as envelopes.

Unexpected packages with very poor handwriting and misspellings, or those that may originate from non-domestic locations should also be handled very carefully and/or reported. Check first with all your contacts to identify who may have sent you the package. The same applies to other types of mail such as envelopes.
