Lucid Dreams: How to Become a Lucid Dreamer

What Are Lucid Dreams ?

Lucid dreams are dreams that you control. You can determine certain events, outcomes, and sometimes even the physics of your dreamscape. Some people claim to lead a more confident, fulfilled and healthy life when they take control of their dreams. Lucid dreaming occurs more frequently when you are aware of your dream state when asleep. It's the awareness factor that must be practiced in order to increase the number of lucid dreaming experiences you have.

Train Yourself to Become a Lucid Dreamer!

1. Write down your dreams in a log. Keep this log near your bed. As soon as you wake up write the dream down immediately. Frequently read this dream log before you go back to sleep.

2. Practice awareness in your "awake" state by verifying that you are not dreaming through repetition training. You can do this right now. Pick up a book and read the title of the book three times. If it reads the same each time then you are probably not dreaming! Practice this daily. Read road signs three times as you drive, read the headlines of your newspaper three times, etc. The reason for this seemingly bizarre ritual is that in a dream things will rarely read the same after three tries. Only by making a habit of this behavior in your conscious state will you likely repeat this in your dreams. It's a known method for detecting if you are dreaming or not. Remember lucid dreaming largely depends on recognizing "when" you are dreaming and when you are not.

3. If you successfully reach a dream awareness state (inside a dream) imagine a special "reminder object" and hold it in your hand. This can be a coin, rabbit's foot, or anything you can easily hold in one hand. During a lucid dream experience squeeze the charm in your hand as a reminder that you are in control of your dream. If you feel like you are losing control simply squeeze the object to empower your control. It's important to constantly remind yourself you are dreaming during the lucid experience to maintain control. Using an object is one method of achieving this.

4. Remember that lucid dreaming can be experienced by anyone. Don't lose faith and keep trying! Don't expect to control everything because that's not likely to happen for anyone.

5. You should review the idea of lucid dreaming and embrace the concept frequently. You have to really "want" to control your dreams for it to happen.
