To obtain your certification you first need to complete a Police Academy at a FDLE Certified Training Center. The Emergency Services Institute is a certified police training center located in Volusia County that can provide this training for you. Once you complete the Police Academy requirements you can then sit for the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Exam. Some Law Enforcement agencies in Florida will hire you, pay your academy tuition, and provide you a salary while you attend the academy. Other agencies may sponsor individuals with a promise of a job once they complete the training but the training cost is the individual's responsibility. It's also common that people sponsor themselves through the academy but it's recommended you see what various agencies offer. Talking to a recruiter and participating in ride-along programs is a good way to learn more about various departments in your area.
