Google AdSense Showing Irrelevant Ads / AdSense Not Matching My Site's Keywords

Google AdSense is showing irrelevant ads and ads not matching my site's keywords. What's happening ?

Many times when adding new content or making changes to an existing page, Google Adsense may display ads based on older cached versions of your site even if they are irrelevant at the moment. Give it some time. Google should eventually spider your pages again and set ads relevant to the keywords inside your content. Sometimes you will see ads still showing for keywords no longer existing in your website's pages.

AdSense Keyword Relevancy Tips

1. Give Google sufficient time to spider your new pages or recent content changes.

2. It's possible you may have accidentally left-behind some keywords from the older content version. If changing an existing page then search your source code for errors.

3. Are your keywords relevant and popular within the industry you are targeting and with proper keyword density ? You can use Google AdWords keyword tool to explore popular industry-related phrases and to possibly get an indication of advertiser competition. Keywords with scarce competition may make it difficult for Google to locate relevant advertisers to display on your pages. Also by analyzing your site's keyword density you may discover ideas for how to improve your own site's keyword relevance to a specific product or service.

4. If you want Google AdSense to display ads from a specific content region on your pages then you could try using the following AdSense HTML comment code:

<!-- google_ad_section_start-->

Your specific visible content region here

<!-- google_ad_section_end-->

5. If you want to hide certain keywords that you think are triggering irrelevant ads use the following:

<!-- google_ad_section_start (weight=ignore)-->

This text would be hidden / not read by AdSense because it's between these tags

<!-- google_ad_section_end-->
