My Computer Freezes Randomly

My computer freezes randomly, what can I do to speed it up and to prevent this freezing ?

A number of issues could be the culprit. This is why you will need to isolate what the potential problem could be by the process of elimination. I usually start with the easy to deploy solutions first. This is just one approach but it has worked in many situations.

1. Very Easy (May solve the problem) - Simply restart your computer. 90% of problems similar to this are fixed by a simple reboot. If that doesn't work, go to #2.

2. Easy (May identify / May solve ) - These days Spyware will continuously cause computer issues or cause a computer to freeze randomly. Spyware is very common and you don't need to spend money to detect if you have a Spyware infection. I offer a free trial of Spyware Doctor Here. If Spyware Doctor simpy finds cookies then most likely that's not what's causing your trouble. If it finds something else it's recommended you remove the spyware immediately. If this doesn't speed up your computer, go to #3.

3. Restart your computer in Safe Mode. You can do this by pressing the F8 key on restart. Instructions for starting in safe mode are found here. Safe mode will only run components that are essential to your computer's operation. The idea here is that if your computer runs fine in safe mode then maybe you installed an application at some point that is causing a conflict. This means you may have to think about what recent applications you installed that could possibly be causing the slow-downs. You can isolate what program might be causing the problem by running MSCONFIG. Instructions for MSCONFIG are here - However, instead of boot options like is shown in that example, you would uncheck startup items or services you suspect might be causing the problem. These items can be found inside the tabs msconfig has.

4. If you cannot identify the problem via Safe Mode or MSCONFIG, you could take a look at things like possible registry problems, your virus protection, and consider reinstalling Windows. Be sure that your Virus definitions are up-to-date as well. A free trial of Registry Mechanic is also offered below if you think your registry could be at the root of the problem.
